We are a small, owner operated preschool located in Heretaunga Upper Hutt.
P2 is open from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. We have a close down period during Christmas and New Year.
Parents can choose from 3, 4 or 5 day attendance, 8:30 - 3:30pm. There is an optional before and after school care from 8am to 5pm.
P2 is a fun, nurturing environment that has a strong sense of community. It is a place where children can develop a secure sense of self that promotes their learning, development and wellbeing.
At P2 we believe every child is unique with special qualities, strengths and interests. Our aim is to create a programme that is rich with a diverse range of activities within a flexible, stimulating and inclusive learning environment led by the children’s interests and needs.
We will provide learning experiences that motivate the children to participate, explore, question and investigate; inspiring them to embrace challenges and find joy and self worth through their achievements.
We feel this enables children to feel empowered as confident, capable learners supporting them to master the cognitive, social and physical skills necessary for a smooth transition to primary school.
A maximum of 20 children each day enables teachers to build strong bonds and identify needs and strengths of each child.
P2 encourages the children to treat each other with respect, promoting an atmosphere where each child feels liked, cared for and valued.
P2 is an inclusive preschool where the diversity that the teachers and children bring to P2 is celebrated, welcomed and acknowledged, enriching our learning environment.
"Children need to be outside. They need to explore, get dirty and find stuff. They need to have fun." - Department of Conservation.
Our garden is a very busy space. “The plants have water, they grow bigger and bigger. We eat some food that gets on them.” Sophie 3 yrs.
P2 consistently receives positive feedback from New Entrant teachers on how well prepared the P2 children are for school. “Confident, independent, great thinking skills.”

Hi P2 team just passing on some feedback, we've recently been very impressed on Lucas' math skills. Beginning of this year Lucas didn't show much interest on knowing math when we introduced counting to him. A couple of months ago we were at Mitre 10 and he suddenly read out some prices correctly on the tags, they were numbers in hundreds, e.g. $219, $109 etc. As the expectation by then was to get him counting to 10 we were extremely surprised! I'm sure it was the learning at P2 that came out of his memory. We were shocked at how much he knows, he showed passion and tried hard to use both hands to work out the correct answers when we asked him plus and minus number questions. Being busy parents I think this is the time that we felt grateful how much our child gained from P2. With your learning programme Lucas has got himself ready for school by showing to be independent on daily life, from self managing, socialising, problem solving skills to academic progression. I don't think he will run into any trouble coping with the upcoming school life. I just want to say THANK YOU on behalf of me and the family to you all for helping Lucas set up a great start of his school journey.

We had the pleasure of having our son, Sam (now 7) attending P2 and can honestly say that when it came time for our second child, Max, to commence pre-school we didn’t consider any other option. P2 provides such a great platform with the focus on learning and personal growth of each child in a supportive environment whilst at the same time ensuring they are having fun and are being exposed to so many different activities and interests. We cannot recommend P2 highly enough.

I really enjoy watching my 3 year old grow and learn and love being at P2. Being my first child I found P2 absolutely amazing. The teachers from day one were so warm and welcoming and made it really easy for me to leave my child knowing how much she will gain from such a supportive, adventurous, challenging, creative and the list goes on. I could write a novel about P2 and how much joy I have dropping and picking my child up and hearing about her day and can’t wait for my second child to attend next year. Highly recommended to all my friends and whoever I come in contact with.

Kia Ora, we have been working together for 8 years and as a team we value our individual strengths in providing a holistic approach to support children’s learning and development. We are all very passionate about empowering our children through a stimulating, nurturing and fun environment. It is important to us that each child feels empowered to discover their self-worth, that they feel good about themselves, they feel liked, valued and accepted.

Is an important part of our day and our philosophy. Imagination and creativity take over leading the children into areas that interest them. If it isn’t fun, it isn’t play. Play is an important part of supporting healthy development in children! Following their own interests in a fun environment keeps the children engaged and motivated to learn.
P2 is a very spontaneous and dynamic place, due to low numbers the teachers can respond in the moment to support children’s interests. Valuable learning moments are recognised and supported; empowering children by letting them know they are valued and have a place.
Every week we have wilderness adventures, trips into the community or visit the local park. At P2 we believe these experiences will promote children’s well-being through supporting physical and emotional resilience as they discover their own strengths, have responsibility and be involved.
Adventuring beyond the preschool gate allows the children to experience opportunities to take a risk and be brave, wonderful for self-confidence! The local park offers physical challenges, our walks are full of muddy puddles and treasures to collect, neighbours are visited with baking, tuis in the kowhai trees are observed and listened to and the list goes on!
Group time is often led by the children’s interests it provides opportunities for the children to work together, learn new skills and knowledge alongside their peers. Group time enables the children to develop an awareness of their own strengths, ways in which they can contribute and help others and communication skills, an important part of building relationships!
As this is a small group setting the teachers are able to support each child with their individual needs. Some group activities involve balls, digging in the sandpit, drawing, baking, creating with blocks and playing games.
Music, dancing and creative movement are a big part of our mat time. Other activities that can feature are; stories, Te reo or a mat time focus - currently there is an ongoing dinosaur focus which has included alot of singing and moving like a dinosaur.
Mat Time is a time when our children come together as a community of learners. As a community, we share our thoughts, listen to one another, introduce new concepts and ideas, act in plays, read together and build a sense of respect and support for one another.
A sense of community and belonging is highly valued. We actively encourage family involvement in their child’s learning journey. We recognise working together with families is an important part in supporting children’s learning and development and ensuring they are happy and enjoying P2.
We pride ourselves on our daily conversations with families regarding what their child has done for the day. We love having our families join us on our weekly outings, coming in to read a story or just to hang out!
